Distribution and Retail Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Distribution and Retail - Essay Example The positioning of a product is very beneficial for the company in order to get the ‘feel’ of consumers and the general public. Public perception is vital for a product as it determines whether or not the product would be sold successfully in that market. It is a fact that the general public always remembers the leading company, which has introduced a product. Effective product positioning also affects the determination of alternative products and different purchasing levels. The basic meaning of product positioning in any market local or foreign is to get a comparison of your brand versus your competitor’s brand. So with this in mind it is safe to assume that proper product positioning may alter the choice of the consumers, meaning, it may develop an alternative between same products. It takes a great deal of research and assessment when a company decides to place its product in another market in another country, there is a series of different analysis which are needed so that determining how a product will be conceived in another market becomes easy (Varle 2006). It should be remembered that product positioning directly influences the consumer’s evaluation of similar products and their will to purchase products. These are the stages in which the buyer takes two products of the similar market, the products are also similar, and then based on various brands available in the market the consumer prefers only one out of them, which he or she thinks is the most suitable. When the consumer is evaluating two similar products of the same brand the major factor affecting his or her decision is buying one brand and ‘product positioning’ will aid them to buy the product, which suits them well. So basically when a consumer wants to buy a similar product of which there are other alternatives and brands present, it is important that they choose one brand, and this they determine by performing a sort of problem solving technique which can lead them to make a better choice. With this being said, it is also true that a major portion of problem solving they perform involves a level of ‘consumer involvement’. This depends on the level of interest that particular consumer has in buying a product, then there is the cost factor, then there is also the visibility of the product and the significance the consumer gives to the product and many other factors, which means that brand positioning can only be affected by the level of involvement. Based on this information we shall now review, analyze and evaluate the owner‘s venture in UK. The owner of the business has founded a factory which produces casual pure cotton for a large departmental chain, but now the factory also manufactures clothes such as skirts, shirts, pants and dresses for ladies in three different sizes, the operation is on a small scale but the owner has now become the main distributer and now wants to sell his products in UK (Ries 1981). The target market of the store and its positioning First of all before opening the store in Greater London, the owner has to determine the target market for his clothing. As the owner produces shirts, skirts, pants and etc for ladies in all three sizes, he must look for a location within Greater London where there are fewer competitors. The positioning of the store will largely depend on the number of alternatives present in that market if the competition in the area is fierce then it is suggested that the owner should find another location

Future Farmers of America Association Essay Example for Free

Future Farmers of America Association Essay Can you believe that the National FFA Organization (Future Farmers of America) has over 400,000 members and growing in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, and The Virgin Islands? The FFA is a National Organization devoted to teaching and introducing students to agricultural education. It has introduced a large impact on students, changed their views on agriculture, and given them the chances to carry them out. The history of FFA is quite a long one, starting back in 1925, when four agricultural education teachers organized the Future Farmers of Virginia, which would serve as a model for FFA, as well as the New Farmers of America. Then, in 1930, at the third National Convention, national competitions were restricted to only male competitors. The official creed, written by E. M. Tiffany, and official colors, national blue and corn gold, were adopted this year as well. In 1933, Ohio FFA members wore blue corduroy jackets with the FFA emblem printed on the back, and those were later immersed into the official uniform. Soon after, the NFA and the FFV merged together with the FFA. Later on, in 1988, the organizations name was changed from Future Farmers of America to FFA Organization and membership was extended to middle school students. Lastly, in 2006, the National Convention was at its maximum attendance, with a jaw-dropping amount of about fifty thousand attendants! The history if FFA will continue to become more memorable as long as new members join. The FFA training sequence consists of several areas, pertaining specifically to the SAE program, career opportunities, and chapter meetings. The Supervised Agricultural Experience, or SAE, Program is used to carry out a knowledgeable agriculture project. The project workers are often helped by their chapter advisor, depending on what area of study the project is from, choosing from ag production, food science, forestry, ag sales/ service, and horticulture. In some chapters, members are permitted to visit the chapter’s greenhouses/farms to expand and further pursue Ag education. They can choose to extend their knowledge in fields like farm economics, marketing, computer science, and biotechnology. Through chapter meetings, members will learn and develop public speaking skills and working for others. There are several activities to compete in and degrees to earn and receive in FFA. Members compete at local, state, and national levels in the fields of public speaking, Ag mechanics, dairy-cattle, livestock, poultry, dairy food, meat, and rabbit evaluations, floriculture, ornamental horticulture, parliamentary procedures, and nursery/ landscaping skills. The FFA also gives out four degrees to its members. The Discovery Degree is given to seventh and eight grade students. The Greenhand Degree is given to high school freshmen with knowledge, goals, and skills of FFA. After completing two semesters of Ag course work, you receive the Chapter Degree, with which you are entitled to wear a silver pin. The last degree, the State Degree, is obtained for outstanding achievements and for development of leadership skills. The receiver, however, must have also worked at least a minimum of 300 unpaid hours, and they receive with this honor a golden emblem pin. The FFA is definetly one of the younger organizations in the U. S. But, throughout the last ten years, it has delivered a tremendous impact to students, teachers, and the nation along with it’s future.

Theory Of Mcluhan In Communications Media Essay

Theory Of Mcluhan In Communications Media Essay This research will discuss theory of McLuhan in communications and media technologies. And also will talk about some of the important points referred to by McLuhan in theories such as Global Media and understanding media. Also, Marshall McLuhan was also working in the 1960s but came up with a new and novel thesis. Scholars whom we have examined so far were all in some way concerned with media production and consumption and the effects of media on individuals, groups and societies and McLuhan was no different. But he took as his starting point, media technologies themselves and was interested in how the technology could affect the media messages that were transmitted. There have been many strong criticisms of McLuhans writings since the 1960s so today, we examine his work in detail and will also examine these criticisms. Introduction: Marshall McLuhan he was Canadian philosopher specializing in different communication theories and of the most important theories was studied media theory. And also had a lot of practical applications in many industries such as advertising and TV. This philosopher predicted the advent of the Internet 30 years ago is invented. McLuhan is work to coining the expressions the medium is the message and the global village, and for predicting the World Wide Web almost thirty years before it was invented although he was a fixture in media discourse in the late 1960s, his influence began to wane in the early 1970s. In the years after his death, he would continue to be a controversial figure in academic circles. With the arrival of the internet, however, there was renewed interest in his work and perspective. Hypothesis: Hypothesis in this research are as follows: The relationship between Media technology and Media message and also analyzes the criticism of the theory of Marshall McLuhan Research question: What did Marshal McLuhan write about the relationship between media technology and media message? Why was he so strongly criticized? There are lots of answers which will discover from this essay for this relationship. Methodology: Marshall McLuhan was also working in the 1960s but came up with a new and novel thesis. Scholars whom we have examined so far were all in some way concerned with media production and consumption and the effects of media on individuals, groups and societies and McLuhan was no different. But he took as his starting point, media technologies themselves and was interested in how the technology could affect the media messages that were transmitted. From lecture (theory of media technology communication) The relationship between Media technology and Media message: Media message a theory that was interested in studying all aspects and also next to that care Marshall studied technical and relationship with Media message. Lot of people around the world assumes that the true meaning of the center refers to mass media such as the press, radio and TV. Traditional understanding most of people that letter explains the content and information. But this allows putting it within results fault by people. Theory McLuhan says that the content of the information in the middle or message should be ignored and considered unimportant. In most cases people will be convinced that the center is no longer the message is nonsense. Intended McLuhan here not every center in its meaning clear. Marshall also interested in the changes that occur in our lives, whether a new invention or idea in life. Marshall also interested in the changes that were taking place in various aspects of life which have related to thinking of people such as communications and media tools. Marshall was tells us that the message you many different functions in the context of worldly for our lives. Letter tells us that any discovery or invention is presented to the Humanitarian Affairs example message theater productions indicate the change in public attitudes through public opinion on the content and substance of the message of the play. Also news bulletin it is not news themselves but change in public attitude toward crime or through the creation of attitude in the public, such as fear and terror. We note that this letter tell us the changes and effects of clear and unclear in the content. A global society in majority of cases the problem by different media a device that connects to people through it. We can see the electrical changes and the different cultural of society via the media. Read the message content correctly easy for us to understand it. There are a strong relationship between the technical and the content of the message in the media. Technical help to deliver the message content to the public in the community. Also help technical change peoples attitudes in many different aspects of the community. For Example advertising in the media such as television. Television displays many of advertisements for various things such as smart phones through advertising people will go to buy these phones that will help them in the process of connect and fast communicating. Of course, this depends on the content of the message in advertising if it was positive and convincing, and then the power to attract the public all this helps to attract the public to buy phones. Media as Extensions: Also McLuhan he was referred to a very important theory in the medium which that the content and the medium can do, such as humanitarian feelings for example loudspeaker helps to extend the ear for the widespread use of the medium will affect in a big way on the balance of the humanitarian feelings of the culture of a particular community. If the radio dominate sensations environment will be heard privilege to other humanitarian feelings of man in society. McLuhan said here is people should be aware they are separated from media technologies. In the media sympathetic describes McLuhan that the content of the middle like a piece of meat is carried by the thief in order to distract the attention of the Oversight Committee? This means that people tend dramatically to focus on content is clear that provides a person with useful information but in this process will hide all the changes that will occur in the content for long periods of time. The values à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¹Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬ ¹of society and the ways in which we need to work things change because of technology and its impact on the content in the media. Important point of this we must recognize the social consequences of the center. Whether cultural issues, religious and historical during the process of interaction the current conditions to the social effects. The global village: In the sixties wrote McLuhan that visual culture will expires soon. Which called electronic dependence and this means that the electronic media replaced by visual culture of oral culture. In this new era of human beings will move from the individual culture to the collective identity. Hot and Cool Media: McLuhan Saied that different media have varying degrees of participation on the part of the person what will be consumed? Some media such as film and was hot that is, they focus on one meaning. In this case the person does not need to exert a lot of effort to fill in the details image movie. But McLuhan contradicts this with T in the cool and said the person needs more effort on his part to determine the meaning of the center in TV. Criticisms of McLuhan: There have been many strong criticisms of McLuhans writings since the 1960s until today. Firstly, it is important to note that McLuhan became rather famous in the 1960s and 70s after the publishing of Understanding Media. He was hailed in the popular US press as a new and important thinker and was interviewed in popular magazines. His key phrases such as the global village and the medium is the message were frequently used (although not always understood). But within academia (particularly critical theory and cultural studies), his work was met largely with criticism (although some scholars did admire his creativity and originality). To conclusion: In this essay I write on the theory communication for McLuhan. I write about the relationship between Media message and media technology with mention some examples of the social context in the global community. Also in this search for Media and the relationship of this theory with ideas McLuhan. Also wrote in this search for strong criticism for McLuhan with stated reasons led to this criticism. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee :: To Kill a Mockingbird Essays

Irony is the opposite of what is and what seems to be. Harper Lee uses irony in her novel To Kill A Mockingbird on several occasions to illustrate the difference between appearance versus reality. An example of this is the cementing of the tree.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Jem and Scout received many gifts from the oak tree like: chewing gum, a ball of twine, soap carvings of Jem and Scout, a spelling medal, Indian-heads, and a pocket watch. Jem and Scout write the gift-giver a thank you note intending to put it in the tree hole the very next day. When they arrive at the tree they noticed that the hole had been cemented. Jem and Scout asked Mr. Radley why he filled the hole with cement and his reply was, 'Tree's dying. You plug 'em with cement when they're sick. You ought to know that, Jem'; (pg. 67). Later that same day Scout finds Jem crying because he had realized that Mr. Radley was preventing his brother Boo from pursuing a friendship with them. The difference between appearance and reality comes into affect. First, Mr. Radley tells Jem and Scout that he cemented the tree because it was sick when it was not. Secondly, Jem realized that Mr. Radley had lied just to keep Boo from having any friends from the outside world. Harper Lee uses irony when Aunt Alexandra hosts the missionary circle.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The ladies that attended Aunt Alexandra's missionary circle acted as hypocrites. She says, '...I made a pledge in my heart. I said to myself, when I go home I'm going to give a course on the Mrunas and bring J. Grimes Everett's message to Maycomb...'; (pg. 233-234). The are speaking with compassion of neglected Blacks somewhere in Africa while treating the Negroes that live in and around Maycomb with very little respect. Later in the conversation Mrs. Merriweather tells Scout, 'Out there in J. Grimes Everett's land there's nothing but sin and squalor'; (pg. 234). Harper Lee was showing us the difference between appearance and reality at the missionary circle. The ladies feel sorry for the Blacks in Africa but not the ones in Maycomb. They are both black, what difference does it make where they live? All the Blacks in Maycomb country are being prejudiced against by all the whites. A lesson on democracy teaches us that even whites can become prejudiced against other whites.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Cecil Jacobs talks about his current event article about Adolf Hitler persecuting

Ethnocentrism

Pearlie Byrd-Lain American InterContinental University SSCI210-1205A-02 Unit 2IP/ Ethnocentrism Abstract In this summary I will be discussing ethnocentrism and the beliefs of the value one puts on of their cultural beliefs. I will begin with the definition of ethnocentrism and that is the belief that the values, symbols, and customs of one’s own culture are superior to those of another culture (Editorial 2012). First let’s just start with what is culture are practices or beliefs that is passed down through generation to generation.Ethnocentrism is part of one’s culture. I have chosen the TV show Iron Chef America to show how ethnocentrism plays a part even in cooking. There is a competition with the professional chef Mario Batali and a first time contender by the name of Des Jardins. This competition is like all the rest but I wasn’t looking so much at the meals being prepared, I was watching the exchanges going on with the chefs the announcer and the judg es. They all have a different ethnical background and also are from a different culture. The competition began with the type of foods that will be prepared into different courses. The chefs look at the food and began. Mario Batali is Italian and his pride is on the line because he is competing with a first time contender. Mario is not worried about the cooking but about the win. Then there is the first time contender trying to make a name for herself as a professional chef although she has cooked for some of the most famous restaurants in California she still had to prove that she can best Mario Batali.Mario Batali specializes in Italian cooking and Des Jardins specializes in Frenc-california cooking. They were both raised in this cultural background from which they began their profession. Mario is a very proud Italian and it shows in the work in the kitchen. He shows Des respect and courtesy but he takes pride in the dishes being made. Des Jardin also has her pride in the dishes tha t is being made. Her line of ancestors recipes are online due to the fact that she cooks with shrimp on daily basis. (Shrimp being the dish chosen for the cook off. Des Jardin won the competition but you can see that her values and beliefs were in play. In the 18th century and the 20 century the Chinese rejected the European religion due to the fact that the Chinese were an ethnocentric type of people that believed that their religion and values were more superior than that of the Europeans so the Chinese never excepted the religious beliefs of the Europeans over their own beliefs in Confucian.
